Ch.30 – Assertion and reason :- Introduction and formula

Directions : Choose the correct alternative from the following options for the Assertion (A) and Reason (R) given below:

(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct

(b) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct

(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.

(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.

(e) Both (A) and (R) are false.

Ex. 1 :Assertion (A): Silver is not used to make wires.

Reason (R): Silver is a bad conductor

Sol.: Silver is not used to make wire, hence Assertion is true, but silver is not a bad conductor, it is a good conductor.
Hence, Reason is false. Therefore, the correct answer is (c).

Ex. 2 :Assertion (A): In India people elect their own representatives.

Reason (R): India is a democratic country.

Sol.: India is a democratic country and people here elect their own representatives. Therefore, both the Assertion and Reason are correct. Since India is a democratic country, hence people elect their own representatives. Therefore, Reason (R) is the correct fact of the Assertion. Hence, the correct answer is (a).

Ex. 3 :Assertion (A) : Appendix is a vestigial organ in the human body.

Reason (R) : It does not participate in digestion.

Sol.: Appendix is a vestigial organ in the human body but does not participate in digestion. Appendix initially work for  digestion of raw vegetables but later on loses its function. Since, both (A) and (R) are correct and (R) is the correct reason of Assertion, hence our answer is (a).

Ex. 4 :Assertion (A): Bangladesh imports jute from India

Reason (R) : Bangladesh has most of the jute mills.

Sol.: Bangladesh occupies the area of jute production and India has jute mills. Therefore. India imports raw jute from Bangladesh. Hence, both (A) and (R) are false. Hence, the correct answer is (e).
