ch-5 :- Input-Output : Exercise 2

⇒ Directions for Q. No. 1 to 5 : A word arrangement machine, when given an input line of words, rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and steps of rearrangement.

Input    : ‘the most typical is set for action.’

Step I    : typical most the set is action for.

Step II    : most typical is set the for action.

Step III    : typical most set is action for the.

Step N    :  set most typical action is the for

(and so on) ……..

Study the pattern and then answer the following questions

1. Input: ‘why do you worry for your study.’ ‘ Which of the following will be the yth step?

(a) do for why you ……

(b) do for your worry……

(c) do for worry study……

(d) do for study worry ……

(e) None of the above

Answer & Solution

Ans(c)

5

From above illustration, it is clear that in step I word marked with 1 is interchanged with 3, 4 with 5, and 6 with 7, keeping the word marked 2 as it is. In step II, word marked 5 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,4 with 1, and 6 with 7. Likewise in third step, word marked with 6 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,5 with 4 and, 1 with 7. Now, step IV is again identical to step I and so on

yth step for the given input will be 2 5 4 7 361, which is obtained after continuing the step IV given in the illustration. Hence, the yth step is, do for worry study…….

2. ‘set for the table is their black’, is the fourth step of a given input. Which of the following will be the input?

(a) their for the is set table black.

(b) their for the set is table black.

(c) their for the is set black table.

(d) None of the above

Answer & Solution

Ans(c)

5

From above illustration, it is clear that in step I word marked with 1 is interchanged with 3, 4 with 5, and 6 with 7, keeping the word marked 2 as it is. In step II, word marked 5 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,4 with 1, and 6 with 7. Likewise in third step, word marked with 6 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,5 with 4 and, 1 with 7. Now, step IV is again identical to step I and so on

IVth step is of the order: 5 2 3 7 4 1 6, i.e. ‘set for the table is their black’. Hence, input for this step will be : 1 234567 i.e., ‘their for the is set black table’

3. Which word will come in the fourth place in the second step of the input : ‘Success comes in disguise as hard-work’?

(a) as     (b) comes    (c) disguise

(d) success     (e) None of these

Answer & Solution

Ans(a)

From above illustration, it is clear that in step I word marked with 1 is interchanged with 3, 4 with 5, and 6 with 7, keeping the word marked 2 as it is. In step II, word marked 5 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,4 with 1, and 6 with 7. Likewise in third step, word marked with 6 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,5 with 4 and, 1 with 7. Now, step IV is again identical to step I and so on

IInd step of the input is of the order: 2 3 4 5 1 6 7. Therefore, fifth word of the input is at the fourth place of IInd step. Hence, word ‘as’ will be at the fourth place.

4. If the ‘our call to all those who dream’, be the first step of a given input, then which of the following will be the third step?

(a) call our all to dream those who.

(b) our call to all who those dream.

(c) our call all those who dream to.

(d) our call those all dream who to.

5. Which of the following will be the vth step of the input as given in the illustration?

(a) most set is action typical ……

(b) most set action is typical …….

(c) set most is action typical …….

(d) most set action is typical …….

(e) None of the above

Answer & Solution

In step II, word marked 5 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,4 with 1, and 6 with 7. Likewise in third step, word marked with 6 is kept same and 2 is interchanged with 3,5 with 4 and, 1 with 7. Now, step IV is again identical to step I and so on

vth step of any given input is of the order: 2 5 4 7 3 6 l. Therefore, the vth step for the input given in the illustration will be ‘most set is action typical…………

⇒ directiens for Q. No. 6 to 9 : Study the following information to answer the given questions. A word arrangement machine, when given an input line of words, rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and the steps of rearrangement.
